Connecticut parents and child custody agreements

On Behalf of | Aug 9, 2016 | Child Custody |

Most Connecticut parents are protective of their children. They want what is best for the children, and they will go the extra mile to see that their children are taken care of. For most parents who do not live together, adhering to child custody agreements and allowing the non-custodial parent to visit with the children is not an issue.

Unless there are extenuating circumstances, most parents agree that it is in the children’s best interest to spend time with both parents. Regardless of the relationship between the adults, the children’s relationship with each parent is an important one that should be maintained. For this reason, when the relationship between the parents is strained, or for other pertinent reasons, visitation can be arranged at a neutral location such as the police station or other specified locale pursuant to a court order.

The termination of visitation rights is a matter that should be carefully considered. Additionally, it is one that should be brought before the courts when there is already a child custody order in place. Recently, a mother and grandparents in another state decided to terminate the father’s visitation in violation of a court order.

When the father arrived at the police station to pick up his child, the mother and child were not there. A search was conducted for them and an Amber Alert was even broadcast. The child was later found in another city. An arrest warrant was issued for the mother, and the grandparents were arrested. The child was taken into protective custody.

Child custody can be an explosive subject between some Connecticut parents. Even though they want what is best for their children, they do not always agree on what, or who, is best. For this reason, child custody orders are vital documents that often dictate matters related to the children.
