There is no question about it — children are expensive. In addition to basic needs such as food, clothes and housing, they often require money for school supplies, extra-curricular activities and dental bills. At times, it can be difficult for a Connecticut couple to keep up with everything that a child needs or would like to have. However, for a single parent depending on child support payments, it can be difficult to keep up with even the basics.
The amount to be paid, when it is to be paid and how it is to be paid is typically spelled out in the couple’s divorce decree. The specific details regarding extra expenses or shared expenses should also be detailed within the judgment. Failure to make child support payments can become a serious legal problem for the parent who owes the money; therefore, it is important for the details to be specifically covered.
Recently, Sonni Pacheco filed legal paperwork alleging that her ex-husband Jeremy Renner was in violation of their child support agreement. According to Ms. Pacheco, Mr. Renner owes approximately $50,000 in child support and has also failed to pay his portion of their daughter’s pre-school expenses. Reports indicate that the question of pre-school expenses was not addressed in their divorce decree; therefore, there is some dispute over this matter.
Child support can be a contentious issue among divorced parents. As such, Connecticut parents will want to make sure that the specific details of the child support and any extras that may present themselves are addressed in the divorce decree. For some parents, child support appears to simply be one more bill that must be paid. Yet, in reality, it is money owed to help take care of one’s child.
