Domestic violence can creep into Connecticut relationship

At first everything seems great -- two people meet and decide to date. Sometimes the relationship ends in marriage; sometimes it continues in a less structured format. For most, there are the everyday disagreements that are resolved one way or another. For others, disagreements escalate or perhaps one or both parties become violent.  Regardless of wealth or position in society, domestic violence seems to creep into the lives of some Connecticut residents.

Many falsely believe that domestic violence is something that only happens to other people. The idea that one could find him or herself in a relationship that takes this path does not seem possible. There are typically warning signs; however, in the passion of meeting someone new, falling in love, getting married and all the other exciting things that relationships bring, these warning signs can be missed or ignored.

Recently, a multimillionaire internet tycoon was convicted for attacking a woman he was dating. Reports indicate that while in his penthouse, he attacked her. This incident was in violation of his parole for a similar incident that had occurred the previous year. As a result of his conviction, this businessman has been sentenced to 12 months in jail, pending appeal.

If someone in Connecticut is in a relationship plagued with domestic violence, he or she will want to take action. In addition to removing oneself from the situation, there are other legal issues such as divorce, child custody and restraining orders to be considered. An experienced attorney will be able to help guide one through the steps necessary to resolve the legal issues and correct the situation.
