Being a parent can be one of life’s most fulfilling challenges. It can also be one of life’s most difficult challenges when the resources are not there to properly take care of a child. For many single parents across Connecticut, it is a daily struggle to provide anything more than just the basic necessities for children. Child support is not a luxury that a parent can simply choose to pay whenever it is convenient. It is, in fact, financial support that is required to ensure that the custodial parent has the resources necessary to take care of a child. Although money does not express love for a child, it does show a child that a parent cares enough to make sure that he or she has what he or she needs.
Recently, one man in another state was arrested for failure to pay child support. Records indicate that he owed more than $340,000 in arrears. In addition to still being responsible for this amount, he may also be responsible for fines and jail time if convicted.
When a Connecticut parent chooses not to pay court-ordered child support, it is ultimately the child who suffers. In this case, the custodial parent will likely want to discuss the situation with an experienced attorney. After analyzing the situation, an appropriate course of action can be established to end the struggle.
