Planning ahead for divorce helps mitigate issues

No two divorces are the same, as many people are already aware. The individual influence of each spouse can shape the path of a divorce, from initial separation to finalizing an agreement. Connecticut residents can benefit from being mindful of these differences, and by planning for them in advance of sitting down to the negotiation table.

Some commentators have compared this approach to divorce to the job of an air traffic controller. Mitigating the multiple issues associated with divorce can be very much like guiding multiple planes safely to the ground without risking mid-air collisions. Considering issues like parenting plans, alimony and child support as their own separate "planes" to be dealt with can be helpful in establishing plans to deal with each.

Focusing on individual issues one at a time lends structure to any negotiations. Dealing with the specifics of, for example, child care before moving onto equitable distribution of property can allow the full attention of both spouses to be grounded on that specific issue, increasing the potential for it to be mutually agreed-upon before moving on. Staying flexible can also be helpful, especially when it comes to constantly-changing elements of the proceedings, particularly with respect to a parenting plan that is likely to change as the children grow.

The issues Connecticut residents will face in divorce are often common across the board, but how individual couples deal with them can be vastly different. Ultimately, it is important for divorcing couples to find solutions that work best for their unique circumstances. Planning ahead and seeking support towards these ends can help increase the likelihood of a positive outcome for all involved.
