Divorce issues do not necessarily end with agreement

On Behalf of | May 12, 2015 | Divorce |

Divorce is a life-changing event for both individuals facing it. Connecticut residents can agree that divorce issues are challenging to overcome, but most would also agree that these issues are handled by the time an agreement is signed. However, this is not necessarily the case, and both planning in advance and seeking support after the finalization of a divorce case can be helpful in handling the divorce issues that come afterward.

Paperwork that comes with changing a legal name can take time and can be quite complicated. In addition, considerations must be made for wills, powers of attorney and other legal issues that may once have fallen to a spouse but that now must be relegated to another individual. This is doubly true in the case of individuals who have minor or dependent children; in the event that something happens to both former spouses, those children must be looked after.

The transfer of finances is equally important. In some cases, an individual may be required to transfer portions of his or her retirement or 401(k) to a former spouse. It is important for both individuals to be well aware of these requirements and to work with the appropriate supports to ensure the paperwork is completed correctly and in full.

Divorce issues can take on many aspects, as Connecticut residents are keenly aware. More importantly, not all of them end with the marriage. Seeking the support of qualified professionals throughout the divorce process can help both individuals prepare for the challenges to come, as both individuals move forward in their single lives.
